Capturing Timeless Moments at Newby Hall
As I prepare for my upcoming photography workshop on June 4th, I've taken some time to revisit the stunning grounds of Newby Hall. This magnificent venue, renowned for its beautiful gardens and grand architecture, serves as an exquisite backdrop for capturing the essence of photography.
During my visit, I focused on several key areas that I believe will enhance the learning experience for workshop attendees. The gardens at Newby Hall are a treasure trove of colours and textures, making it an ideal location for practising composition and lighting. From the vibrant floral displays to the gentle curves of the hedges, there's an abundance of inspiration waiting to be captured through the lens.
One particular spot that stood out to me was the iconic statue-lined path leading to the stunning terrace. The way the afternoon sunlight kissed the statues and illuminated the pathway created a perfect interplay of shadows and highlights. This is a perfect example of how natural light can be harnessed to create depth in an image—an essential skill we'll explore during the workshop.
I also made my way to the magnificent Orangery, a favourite among photographers for its unique architectural features and the sense of tranquillity it offers. The soft natural light filtering through the glass provides an excellent opportunity to practice shooting indoors without the harshness of artificial lighting. Participants will have the chance to experiment with different angles and settings to make the most of this beautiful space.
Beyond the architecture and gardens, Newby Hall holds a rich history that adds another layer of depth to our photography. As we wander the grounds, I encourage participants to think about storytelling through their photographs. Each image can convey a narrative, and I aim to help attendees find and express their unique perspectives.

The combination of beautiful scenery, learning from one another, and the chance to create stunning images makes for an unforgettable experience.
