End of An Era | North Yorkshire Landscape Photographer

Redcar Blast Furnace

On Wednesday the 23rd of November 2022 because an end of era on Teesside. I’ve grown up in the shadow of the blast furnace at Redcar. It always been on the skyline for the whole of my life. Love it or hate it its been a prominent structure in Teesside’s and Redcar’s history and it was ranked second largest in Europe.

Built in 1979, the structure has been the focus, excuse the pun, for many of my photographic workshops. It was one of my go to chill out places with the camera.

I made a point of trying to spend as much time as I could, capturing as many images as i could before the demolition. It was like spending time with an old friend in the final few days before they die. I can’t see why they couldn’t have left the structure for future generations to view, a living history if you like.
